This was a service call on walk in freezer that wasn t cooling.
Walk in cooler compressor turning on and off.
Model number fja b301 tfc 010 with 404 refrigerant 3 phase.
The fans in the walk in cooler should always be running.
Hi all the compressor of a walk in cooler is acting strange.
What i found is when i turn on the walk in cooler the compressor runs for approx 3 seconds and then shuts off although the blower fan continues to run.
If the compressor is cycled off and on too quickly an imbalance is created.
The compressor is a coplanad.
The refrigerant is r 22.
Now it is still cooling and running for the most part the compressor starts up and a couple seconds later it shuts off the compressor.
When the temperature reaches 35 degrees 40 degree set point minus 5 degree differential the thermostat cuts the compressor and the condenser fan motor off.
It keeps turning off and on in repeated short cycles.
I checked the section pressure and it read 60psig.
This imbalance will lead to a shortage of oil inside the compressor and bearing failure 1.
The condenser fans are both locked up on the outside.
Heat is absorbed through the walls from door openings and from the product.
I don t know if the problem has to do with the refrigerant or not.
The walk in freezer or walk in cooler is a major part of many convenience stores cafeterias and restaurants.
Was only able to check the refridgerant on the high side due to the suction side being locked up.
If anyone can give me some advice that would be much appreciated.
The inside temperature of the freezer determines when the thermostat sends the signal to power the compressor.
Walk in cooler and freezer problems like compressor failure and failure to maintain pressure can result in costly loss of products inside the cooler.
I found that the unit had a tripped head pressure controller and a condenser fan motor that w.
If the walk in cooler is freezing up the first step is to melt ice off the evaporator and then check that the evaporation fan is running and rotating correctly.
I got it to run fine by dropping the box temp at the thermostat to 20 to 10 it is keeping the box between 5 to 7 it ran like that working fine for 2 days now the compressor is turning on and right back off it.
It is also a big energy user but is rarely even thought of until an issue happens.
Each time the compressor starts oil is pumped out but without sufficient run time the oil stays out in the system and does not return to lubricate the compressor.
Also check all gauges to be sure temperatures subcooling superheat and pressures are all normal.
Next check for a clean coil and clear drain line.
